Police continue to pursue leads after stolen art recovered
The North Bay Police Service says the investigation into a Sept. 2020 art theft on Silver Lady Lane continues.

Earlier this week, we learned the stolen painting has been recovered and sold at auction in New York.
“The North Bay Police Service has been notified of the recovery of the artwork,” reads a statement from city police. “The investigation remains ongoing, and officers continue to pursue all available investigative leads.”

Jan van Kessel the Elder and Abraham Willemsens’ 17th century painting ‘Interior of a Collector’s Cabinet: An Allegory of Sight’ sold at Sotheby’s New York for nearly $90,000.
The Art Loss Register (ALR) says the painting was identified three years after it was stolen when it was checked against the ALR database, as part of Sotheby’s standard due diligence process.
Officials say Sotheby’s was informed of the painting’s stolen status, and the potential consignor then went silent for over a year after Sotheby’s was informed of the painting’s stolen status.
They were eventually able to get a response and recover the painting.
The registr says an insurance company had paid the claim on the painting and secured the right to claim the stolen painting if it ever reappeared.
