Remuneration the focus of revamped motion coming to council
A reworked motion to look at remuneration for mayor and council members is coming to next week’s meeting.
The original motion put forward, and then withdrawn a couple of weeks ago, wanted council to vote on giving the next mayor a 35% increase to $115,000 a year.
The new motion does not include any dollar figures or percentage increases.

It calls for staff to report back on remuneration of Northern Mayors, including base salary, pensions and travel, and additional income from committee appointments for both the Mayor and Council positions.
Along with assuming strong mayor’s powers, the motion points to the mayor’s job requiring full-time dedication to manage complex municipal issues, multimillion-dollar budgets, relationships with senior levels of government, and more.
Those reasons were cited in the original motion too.

It also requests three options for council’s consideration.
