Young person charged and replica firearm seized after altercation
By Brad Aubin
A 15-year-old from North Bay is facing charges after city police say officers responded to an altercation involving a firearm on Memorial Drive.
The North Bay Police Service says the call came in around 11 on Wednesday night, with officers responding quickly in locating and arresting the accused.
The service adds police recovered and seized a replica firearm as part of the investigation.
Inspector Scott McFarlane says using a replica firearm to commit a criminal offence carries the same serious legal consequences as using a real firearm, with responding officers treating all firearm reports as a real threat to protect the public and themselves.
The accused has been charged with:
- Carrying a Concealed Weapon
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Pointing a Firearm
- Discharge Firearm into or at a Place in a reckless manner
- Causing a Disturbance
- Careless Use of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm
- Two Counts of Fail to Comply with Undertaking
The accused was arrested held in custody pending a bail hearing.
